Parts of a Musical

CLOSE-UP

This was a reeeeally big bulletin board.  In retrospect I should have added a few more things to fill it up!  Oh well...next time!  This bulletin board was designed for K-8 students and was showcased in the hallway that they would all pass during Music In Our Schools Month.  The sign in the lower left hand corner of the bulletin board says "March is Music in Our Schools Month....Celebrate!"  This bulletin board lists the 4 main parts of a musical:  music, lyrics, dance and book.  Under each of these are several examples from several well-known musicals.  See the CLOSE-UP.  For example:

Lyrics "We're off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz!  We hear he is a wonderful wiz if ever a wiz there was..."  Wizard of Oz

Music:  "The Goatherder's Song"  The Sound of Music

Dance:  Mambo  from West Side Story

Book:  A rough-round-the edges flower girl learns to act and speak like a lady with the help of a linguistic expert.  My Fair Lady

The VHS covers from several musicals are scattered about as are ticket stubs.  I would probably add empty popcorn boxes or cups from a local theater next time.  You could also add a string of white Christmas light for inexpensive "glamor".

This could be organized into a much stronger graphic organizer with bold black lines connecting sections and examples.
