A glyph is a pictorial representation of data.  These clever worksheets ask students to color each object based on what they hear.  The glyphs are so versatile that they can work with virtually any listening piece!  Some of the concepts covered:  loud/soft, fast/slow, steady beat/no steady beat, lullaby, march, smooth/separated, mood and more!  Included in the kit are 7 glyphs:  butterfly, penguin, house, Christmas tree, snowman, pizza and gingerbread man.  Also included are suggestions for using the glyphs and a few ideas for listening examples.  This kit contains PDF files.  Click here to sample the Gingerbread Glyph.

This kit contains 5 different worksheets to facilitate a focused listening experience in your classroom. 

Listen Up!-Grades 3 through High School.  This worksheet ask for detailed descriptions of the elements of music with opened ended and multiple choice questions.

Dynamics Listening Sheet-An easy to use worksheet that allows students to circle the dynamic symbol they hear in a musical example that you play or perform.

Puzzle Listening Sheet-This worksheet contains 6 sections that allow for open ended student responses to musical examples.  Students will write about melody, dynamics, mood, tempo, rhythm and tone color.  A guide with detailed questions is also included for this worksheet.

What Do You Hear? This worksheet is picture based and was designed for use with K-1.  It could easily be used with Preschool or 2nd grade.

Primary Listening Journal-This worksheet was designed for the young listener who is learning to read.  It contains two open ended questions where students may write a word or two.  It also contains 3 questions with multiple choice options like "slow or fast".

A guide with suggestions for use is included.

This colorful bulletin board set features Camille Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals.   Included in this kit are posters of each piece in Carnival of the Animals.  The photo shows a partial kit.  The posters feature the subject of each piece as well as icons for the instruments that you’ll hear in each piece.  Title letters are not included in this kit, but a colorful title sheet is included.

I’m always looking for ways to keep students listening to the delightful music of Saint Saens’ Carnival of the Animals.  One of my favorite ways is to provide a coloring sheet while listening to a piece from this collection over and over.  It helps the students associate the music with the character they are coloring.

 

This download features a set of 16 coloring pages.  You could provide a single sheet at a time or you could copy and staple them together to create coloring book.   Included are pages for each of the pieces in Carnival of the Animals, a title sheet and a page about the composer.

 

Three sizes are included:  full sheet pages, 2 coloring sheets to a page and 4 coloring sheets to a page.  Multiple formats will allow you to customize the use of the coloring sheets to fit your classes, your copying limits and your time constraints.
